WordPress Recently Added an Email List Signup Widget

So, I’ve been thinking of ways to grow followers to my blog. One current way I’ve been doing so is by becoming active in the blogging community.

Every day I spend about an hour reading other blogs, looking for news to follow, liking relevant posts, and commenting on ones that I find interesting and engaging. It’s not hard but it does feel like a lot of work.

In fact, I even made a tutorial about it on YouTube.

Check it out!

Something new though that I’ve been considering is email lists. Growing followers on WordPress is easy enough. In the past 6 months I’ve grown fro 85 followers up to a healthy 245, but I feel like this isn’t enough.

One thing I’ve always wanted to add is an e-mail follower pop up that people can click on when they view my site.

And wouldn’t you know it, as of today, WordPress now offers a widget that allows us to do this!

The service is offered through MailChimp and the process is pretty simple. Simply create an account through MailChimp, import some emails, and create a signup form. Once you do this you simply have to copy and paste the code into the code box that appears when you clicked on the widget option.

How cool is that?

I went ahead and took a screenshot for you to gaze at.

I’m going to see how mine does for a week or two and report back to you. Hopefully I gain some followers!

    Thanks for the pointer!
Will email lists work the same way “follow the blog” widget does?
In other words, a reader gets a pop-up subscribe, he subscribes and receives email notifications of my new posts, just like the built-in Jetpack plug-in?
Or do I have to work it out with MailChimp interface and send my mailchimp subscribers email newsletters written by me?

It may come across as a silly question, yet I’ll greatly appreciate it if you could hell me out understand how it works.

    Many thanks in advance!

  3. I have been wondering if this widget is necessary since WordPress already makes it easy with the’follow’ button.

  4. I’m not sure actually. So far I haven’t had any subscribe, so you might be on to something.

I think the “follow” button is solely for WP members whereas the “email signup” is for growing your email list outside of WP. Thanks for the tip, I am going to give this a shot and report back. 🙂
